Fan remakes make me smile

It is no secret that I absolutely love the dedication a lot of hardcore gamers have... especially when they choose to express it in their own artistic ways. Even when it turns out “bad”, I especially love when would-be programmers remake or remix their favorite games into their own creations. Let me show you two examples that I have run across recently which I cannot help but smile at...

First off, as featured on numerous blogs and gaming sites across the net, is a 2.5D remake of the Sega Genesis classic Sonic & Knuckles. This video popped up on Youtube recently from a user named BlobVanDam Little to no information is available on this “project”. Many are wondering if this is, in fact, a full-fledged fan game that is in production or perhaps just a tech demo / tribute of one, specific level. Either way, this is a cool HD update to a classic game that still retains the charm of the original, which is something that is often lost in these sorts of projects. Hopefully more information regarding the project is released in the future...

The second video is in fact a full remake project that is looking to translate the Gamecube classic Metroid Prime into a 16-bit, 2D action game. There are a ton of videos of the different versions of this game available on Youtube... and they all look impressive to me. The Metroid Prime series revitalized the Metroid franchise and the one major complaint that haunted the series was the die-hard fans’ desire to return the series to 2D... well, here you go:
