I had missed posting the news but MTV2 ran a special on
Gears of War tonight. While it only covered the 25 or so days of development leading up to E3 the show was certainly better than anything G4 has produced since they did the Icons show on Psyconaughts last year and even this the Gears episode went a little more in depth on the game design. The most interesting part of the show was that Microsoft wanted to cut the chainsaw bayonet out of the game demo and the folks at Epic had to fight to keep it in. Why is that important? Because the chainsaw was one of the best things about the game, especially in on the multiplayer side. Sure the demo had great visuals but the chainsaw really pushed the game from the good category to the great category. The only negative about the show was the bits on Cliffy's girlfriend. I don't have a problem with them mentioning it but it didn't really add that much to the show. Other than that it was a pretty solid 30 minutes of gaming goodness, it's just a surprise that it came from MTV.
