This is exactly why I love the internet; 15 years ago this sort of information would have never come to light. Thanks to the wonders of the web though, screens and minor information on a canceled Call of Duty title have surfaced.
The most important thing to note is that this project has been canned and will not be completed. It is cool to see nonetheless. Leonid Korostyshevskiy is an artist who has worked on numerous titles in the industry, including the Tiger Woods series, Iron Man 2, and Guitar Hero Van Halen. On his
personal blog, he has released some early screenshots of a project he worked on that was ultimately cancelled; the title was an unnamed entrant in the
Call of Duty series. The screenshots have date stamps that indicate that this build was in the pre-alpha stage as early as July 2007, under the title of CoDAA. Allied Assault? Allied Alliance? The title could have been anything.
The blog states that the title was in development for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The environments and screens shown on the blog seem to hint at a WWII era, European setting... which is likely why the title got canceled. I think that is is safe to say that we have done the WWII setting to death and it is time to move on. It is still cool to see the development process of things though and these are pretty interesting to see in my opinion.
The title would have likely sold millions though... it did have the
Call of Duty name after all. Check out the screenshots below:
