Gameshark was lucky enough to score an
interview with Tom Salta, veteran game composer and the man behind both Red Steel soundtracks. He talks about the challenge of scoring
Red Steel 2 because it was a very different game from the original with a distinct theme all its own. He also discusses coming up with a specific east-west style for the hero, and how he and guitarist Steve Ouimette worked to craft dynamic music for the frenetic and persistent sword fights.
I though Tom Salta did an excellent job with Red Steel 2 and I'd love to get the soundtrack on disc if Ubi is selling it. While playing I did notice a few throwbacks to the first game--a sound effect here, a musical cue there--so Tom did puts some references in for attentive fans of the original, troubled game. Salta also scored the Wii version of
Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands at the same time he was working on Red Steel 2, so I'm definitely looking forward to hearing his work on that game.
