I don't know why but I love reading articles like
this from game developers that show off some of the things that didn't make it to the final version of the game. In this case it's the Repair Node structure for the Engineer class in
Team Fortress 2.
The node would have automatically repaired near by structures (like turrets and dispensers) which would have freed up the Engineer to wander around a bit more (hard core engineers are usually slaved to their structures to keep them up and running). It's kind of a cool idea but it turns out the idea killed game play and would have killed off some functionality of the engineer class. It's an interesting read and gives you some insight into what goes on behind your favorite games.
