The Cult of Rapture has
some information on the multiplayer feature set of
BioShock 2 and there will be news to disappoint PC gamers. There will be no LAN or dedicated server features for the game so as with
Modern Warfare 2, the PC folks are getting the same matchmaking process as we see on the console side of things.
Their answer, in a nutshell, is that they didn't have time to do it. They wanted to focus on bringing multiplayer to the series so they decided to just go with the P2P model. OK, so the game's using the Unreal 2.5 engine that has a setup for dedicated server. Now, I know it's heavily modified for
BioShock 2, but the guys working on the multiplayer portion are veterans in this area. I mean, Digital Extreme has worked on stuff like
Unreal Tournament so they SHOULD have some experience in this. Are you telling me you didn't have enough time to do a dedicated server piece but it was easy to do a listen server? Really?
