CES 2010: Able Planet
In the past, Able Planet has produced some of the best noise-cancelling headphones that I have had the chance to test and use. I always look forward to meeting with them at CES to see what new innovations they bring to the show floor. This year, they had the largest booth that I can remember at the show and were right in the heart of the action in the main Central Hall at the LVCC instead of stuck at the Sands.
The big news from them at this year’s show is a brand new line of gaming headphones. The XG300 will come in four distinct colors, including pink, white red and green and feature Able Planets Linx Audio and noise cancelling. The pink one is especially important, as it is a tribute to breast cancer awareness and every pink XG300 that is sold all year long will result in Able Planet donating $5 to support Breast Cancer Awareness. The boom microphones will also be available (estimated MSRP of $49) and the ear pieces are interchangeable and will also be sold in groups of three colors at a future date. The XG300 should be available sometime starting in March (with the Breast Cancer Awareness pink model due out first) with an estimated MSRP of $129.
Able Planet also showed off the updated NC300 active noise-cancelling model at the show. It is available in both white and black colors and should be ideal for all gaming and audio listening applications that don’t require a microphone. They are designed primarily with performance and comfort in mind and feature in-line volume control, use one ‘AAA’ battery and are lightweight. The NC300 is available right now for $99.99.
