Earlier today, Apple hosted what has become an annual event to introduce new products and features for their iPod lineup. Steve Jobs made his first appearance at an event since he received the kidney of a 20-year old car crash victim earlier this year. While there were many announcements by Jobs and his team, but the ones that concern our audience revolve around iTunes, the iPod Touch, iPhone OS and some game titles announced.
Out of all the updates,
iTunes probably had the biggest facelift, as several features such as Home Sharing (pretty cool) improved synching and a new genius system. It will also allow you to arrange your apps for your touch and iPhone right in iTunes 9, which will be available later today.
The
iPod Touch lineup remained virtually unchanged with the exception of the price. What
we posted earlier may still be clearance pricing, but the new pricing and lineup is as follows:
8GB model - $199
32GB model - $299
64GB model - $399
It appears as if the 16GB model has been dropped from the lineup (at least for now).
Also,
iPhone OS 3.1 was announced and it introduces new ringtone and genius features. It is available today and is free to all iPhone and iPod Touch owners that already have iPhone OS 3.0
A few other gaming specific announcements were that
Assassin's Creed 2 (later this year around Holiday 2009) and
Madden NFL 10 (available today) will both be hitting the iPhone and iPod touch. engadget
live blogged the event and have pictures of all the games that were announced. As press releases and assets become available, we will put them up.
