It seems like it was just a week ago that John Drake was trying as hard as he could
NOT to announce Green Day in Rock Band. But we knew he was hiding something; after all, the band had already confirmed that they would be in Rock Band. The thing is, the way they worded their radio comments, it sounded like the band may be the stars of their own Rock Band game (much like
AC/DC and The Beatles). Today Harmonix has confirmed that this is not the case. Starting on July 7th, Green Day will invade the Rock Band online music store with the first of many (?) Green Day three-packs. Fans get three songs off of the band's newest album, 21st Century Breakdown. This pack features both the first single ("Know Your Enemy") and second single ("21 Guns"), plus East Jesus Nowhere.
Considering all of the attention this announcement has already received, it's interesting that Harmonix decided to go with a three-pack. Major gaming websites have been hyping the idea of Green Day coming to Rock Band for weeks now, I figured they might go with something more substantial. And even if it's not substantial, at least go with something more varied. I have nothing against the band's newest album, but there are plenty of older Green Day songs that fans have been asking for. Alice Cooper recently had a six-pack and Iron Maiden was given 12 songs in their package, the least they could do is give us three more songs from older albums. I'm sure those will show up, but in the mean time we get these brand new tracks. Expect these tracks to hit the online music store early in the morning on July 7th.
