MX and ATV racers might have a great game coming to them. THQ’s
MX vs ATV Reflex is a sequel to MX vs. ATV Unleashed, there’s a few things that sets this game apart from the rest. The biggest feature Reflex has is real-time terrain deformation. Yes, as you drive around your tires will create ruts in the road. Imagine a group of riders fighting to be the first out of the line and as they are driving they deform the terrain behind their vehicles and you have to get through it which is now made more difficult because the road isn’t smooth anymore. Drive five minutes away, come back and the terrain will still be deformed the same way it was when you left. Depending on the type of terrain, and there are four types, the deepness of the ruts created by the tires will be different. The real-time deformation has the ability to give you a wide variety of racing experiences.
There’s a new physics engine that helps create a more realistic ride to the game as well as a way to control to movement of the rider or reflex system. You can do various leans with your right analog stick. When you are about to fall off, an arrow will be displayed for you try to lean back in and take control of the vehicle.
The combinations of the physics engine, real-time deformation, and rider control should add a lot more depth to the series. The game has been built from the ground up and the visuals are pretty good. The riders are animated well and seeing the terrain deform as you ride around is pretty impressive. Dave Gamble thought MX vs. ATV Untamed was fun and from what saw I think he’ll like Reflexx as well. Look for MX vs. ATV Reflex on the PS3, Xbox 360, DS, and PSP.
