Metal Gear Online new Race Mission and "Patriot" details

MGONew details unveiled today for Metal Gear Online's Race Mission mode.  Going live tomorrow -- Tuesday, May 12th, 2009 -- puts two teams of MGO players head to head:  the Blue Team searches for and protects the Kerotan target, and the Red Team searches for and protects the Ga-Ko target.  When a team passes through a checkpoint with their target firmly in hand, the next checkpoint appears.  If a team drops its target and doesn't retrieve it within a set period of time (like the five-second rule with dropped food?) then the target's position is reset and the checkpoint will change.

Also, Konami will be picking a few quote-unquote lucky players each week to become "Patriots."  There are no details as to how to get lucky, but the "Patriots" will be given exclusive access to the "Patriot" 5.56mm Hand Rifle.  This is a gun with infinite ammunition and no reload.  Those lucky-named "Patriots" get access to that gun until the next ranking update.  The news blast doesn't make clear whether or not it'll be top-ranking players that get this nasty little god gun, but if they do, it certainly sounds like it could turn into a situation overkill.

Konami unveiled today, new details for its latest Race Mission mode for Metal Gear Online, the ultimate squad-based, tactical shooter based on the popular Metal Gear Solid franchise. The Race Mission mode pits two teams of Metal Gear Online players. The Blue Team has to search and protect the KEROTAN target, while the Red Team search and protects the GA-KO target. Each time a team passes a checkpoint with its target in hand, a new checkpoint will be generated. If a team drops its target and is not retrieved within a set period of time, the target's position will be reset and the checkpoint will change. The Race Mission feature is scheduled to go live on May 12th, 2009.

Konami also unveiled details on a new Patriot feature that will pick a few lucky players every week to become "Patriots." The selected players will get exclusive access to the "Patriot" 5.56mm Hand Rifle that has infinite ammunition with no reload. The player will have access to these unique Patriot features until the next ranking update. The Patriot Feature is scheduled to go live on May 26th, 2009.
