Logitech continues to produce some great mice ever since they announced the comeback of their G line. Today I’m going to look at their latest gaming mouse, the Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury gaming mouse. It’s the first to feature their new fusion engine.

Let’s start with the basics. The G402 features eight programmable buttons. The two main mouse buttons produce a nice solid feeling click when pressed. By default, the two top left buttons will switch between various DPI settings on the fly. Two thumb buttons offer forward and back functionality. Finally, a lower thumb button is the DPI shift selection, which can quickly set the mouse to a single DPI setting and back to its previous setting when let go.

The wheel has a nice clicky feel to it when scrolling and will let you press down as well for another button function. There’s no tilt functionality and you can’t switch to free spin though. Otherwise, it’s a solid feeling wheel on the G402.

Width wise, the G402 is on the slightly thinner side. I prefer a little more wider mouse myself, but I quickly got used to the G402’s physical design and became comfortable holding it. Underneath the mouse houses the optical sensor which has a range of 240DPI to 4000DPI. There are also four feet for the mouse to glide on.

The big attraction in the G402 is what Logitech calls the Fusion Engine. Normal optical mice only has the optical sensor. With the G402’s Fusion Engine, there’s also an accelerometer and a gyroscope to help track movement. When you move the mouse faster than the sensor can keep up, the accelerometer and gyroscope comes into play keeping track of how you move. The Fusion Engine is the heart of the G402.

Setting up the mouse is easy as the Logitech Gaming Software has a nice UI letting you easily choose which button you want to change and what function to change it to. The mouse also has onboard memory so you can save profiles to it as well. You can also adjust the various DPI steps that the mouse can switch to with the software so you can customize how fast and how slow the mouse can go.

All the technology in the G402 provides such a smooth experience. There are plenty of fast mice out there, but it’s hard to achieve fast with high accuracy and control. It’s because of how hard it is to control at very high DPI settings that I rarely have my mouse set at max DPI. With the G402, that changes.

The accelerometer and gyroscope provide, what I feel, very accurate tracking when I’m moving my mouse quickly. I can definitely say I am in more control with the G402 than any of my other high end mice in these situations. Logitech has gone and successfully merged three sensors to provide solid mouse movement across the board from very slow to quick movements.

Putting the G402 Hyperion Fury Gaming Mouse through its paces, I couldn’t be more happier with how it performed. I’m currently playing a lot of Diablo 3 and Battlefield 4. The G402 let me quickly move the cursor around the map on Diablo 3 and accurately direct my Witch Doctor to where he needed to be and attack areas with great accuracy. With Battlefield 4, I thought the G402 Hyperion Fury gave me the best performance for quick and accurate aiming compared to all the mice I’ve used. I was pleasantly surprised at how accurate the G402 really was and became a firm believer in the Fusion Engine after using it for a short period of time.

No, there aren’t a ton of buttons on this mouse and it is on the thinner side enlisting me to use a more claw grip with the G402. For the mouse wheel, you’re limited to the click option and don’t have the ability to change to free spin. There’s no wireless option here, but then again, the mouse retails for $59.99, which isn’t too expensive and will give you one of the best tracking engine money can buy right now.

The Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury mouse has become my gaming mouse of choice right now. The accurate tracking all around has allowed me to always be in control whether it is in a first person shooter such as Battlefield 4 and Left 4 Dead 2 or killing demons in Diablo 3. I’d love to see a more high end mouse with more options in the future using the Fusion Engine. Until then, the Logitech G402 isn’t an overly expensive gaming mouse that will provide a really solid experience.

With the Fusion Engine, the Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury Gaming Mouse gives you an awesome experience. It lacks some features on higher end mice, but for a solid gaming mouse, it's hard to beat.

I've been reviewing products since 1997 and started out at Gaming Nexus. As one of the original writers, I was tapped to do action games and hardware. Nowadays, I work with a great group of folks on here to bring to you news and reviews on all things PC and consoles.

As for what I enjoy, I love action and survival games. I'm more of a PC gamer now than I used to be, but still enjoy the occasional console fair. Lately, I've been really playing a ton of retro games after building an arcade cabinet for myself and the kids. There's some old games I love to revisit and the cabinet really does a great job at bringing back that nostalgic feeling of going to the arcade.
