When Tranformers: Dark of the Moon launches into theaters later this month, it will be accompanied by a slew of new video games under the same title for pretty much every platform imagineable. As it turns out, they aren’t all going to be the same and recently I had a chance to sit down with someone from Activision to find out just what separates the various Nintnedo versions of the game from the other ones...

Can you introduce yourself and tell us your role on the project?

I’m Justin Westplate with Activision Publishing Minneapolis for Transformers: Dark of the Moon- Stelath Force Edition for the Nintendo 3DS.

What is the difference between the 3DS version and the 360 / PS3 versions of the game?

The 3DS and Wii versions of the game are the only versions that are solely vehicle combat. These versions specifically focus on the stealth force mode, so they are the only versions focusing on that aspect.

Is High Moon handling the development of the Stelath Force games as well?

The DS, 3DS, and Wii versions are all being developed by Behaviour Interactive, formerly Artificial Mind and Movement.

Are there any differences between the DS, 3DS, and Wii versions of the game?

The DS version of the game is broken into two different games, one for the Autobots and one for the Decepticons. Both of those feature cooperative campaigns exclusive to the Nintendo DS. They also feature the robot and vehicle combat. The Wii and 3DS version(s) on the other hand is vehicle only.

What modes of play will be present in the Wii and 3DS versions?

You have got a campaign mode which, within that, has a bunch of different levels which cover all sorts of “mode tactics” such as checkpoint / base style gameplay, capture the flag style, boss battles... it all varies under that one mode.

Does the story of the Nintendo versions of the game tie into the 360 / PS3 versions of the game?

The story of all of the game sis basically a prologue to the movie. Everything that you do has nothing to do with the movie itself, it all leads up to those events. Between all of the various versions, each adds a little bit of information here and there to try and bridge the prologue as a whole. So between the DS, 3DS, Wii, and 360 or PS3 version(s), or whichever one you happen to play, you will get the whole story.

How comparable are the 3DS and Wii versions?

These two games are almost exactly the same; the 3DS is a very powerful little handheld. The one major exception is that the 3DS version has been pulled back a little bit in terms of some of the visual effects. Other than that, its the same assets, the same story, its spot on...

Can we expect any unlockable content, perhaps characters, in the game?

Everything presents itself as you go through the campaign. Though, the Nintendo versions will be the online ones with the exclusive character, Lockdown.

I want to thank Justin for taking the time to answer my questions and walk me through a demo of the game.

About Author

Guess who's back!!! If you have been here before, you know the basics: lifelong gamer, father, and of course, former certified news monkey. I still consider myself all of those things, just maybe not in the grand scale that I once did. I’ve been blogging on the industry for more than decade now, in some form or another. It wasn't until I landed here at Gaming Nexus that I really dove in head first. Now, writing about games has become what I do for fun (and sometimes work) and something I intend on doing until the day I die (in some form or another).

I'm a huge fan of just about everything you can interact with using a controller, no matter how old or new, good or bad. If you put it in front of me, I will play it (at least once).
